Welcome to the website of the South Australian Miniature Enthusiasts Inc (S.A.M.E.)
S.A.M.E. helps promote miniatures through the club meetings, workshops and our annual festival. In doing so we not only help others learn about our hobby but we also raise money for children's charities through our annual festival.
Our club was founded in 1983 and meetings were originally held in one of the members homes. Over the years our membership has grown so much so that we now meet in a hall big enough to accommodate all our members and visitors, who we always welcome. We have now become a little 'web-wise' (as of 2010) and looking forward to being more available to the general public via this site.
Meetings
The meetings include a brief introduction, followed by workshops, demonstrations, occasionally member's trade tables and of course a cuppa! Our meetings help members gain information about, and an understanding of, the hobby of miniatures and collectibles. We share the love of miniatures and also friendship as well.
Meet: 2nd Wednesday of the month (except January - no meeting)
Time: 7.30pm
Where: The Payneham Community Centre, cnr Arthur Street and Payneham Road (the old school building opposite the Marden Shopping Centre)
Festival
Each year we hold a weekend festival of miniatures and dollhouses, the first being held in 1986. The festival includes miniature displays, local and interstate traders, demonstrations of many different techniques for making miniature products (including miniature wood turning), raffles, lucky dips and food to delight the taste buds!!
Next festival: To be announced.
All welcome. Proceeds from the festival, benefit children's charities in South Australia.
Any member of S.A.M.E. is encouraged to access the members only web page, ask questions, give hints and share photos of your miniatures with the whole group. To become a web page member you will need to be a financial member of the club, and then you can forward your email to the address below. You will receive authorisation back to your email - then follow the prompts.

Every year at out Annual General Meeting, with funds raised from our Festival, we make a donation to a children's charity or charities. This year we were pleased to present a donation to a representative of The Australian Lions Children's Mobility Foundation. This enabled the purchase of a "Hart Walker" (an orthotic device which allows children with moderate to severe physical disabilities, especially those with cerebral palsy, to stand and to experience hands free walking.) We felt as a group that this is a very worth while cause.
2011 - We were fortunate enough to have raised enough money to once again offer a donation to another childs mobility unit.

August!
The last meeting before Festival! Wow has that time come around quick? Tonight there was a bit of show and tell. A beautiful flower shop in 1/12th scale - part of next years theme for the Festival - yes we do plan ahead!
Close up of some of the flowers and plants in the shop.Anne brought in her Etui box that she had made in July - 1/12th scale - how cute is that??? And what patience!
Judy has been busy making a couple of tiny scale - probably something close to 1/48th on the right and goodness only knows on the left - I think possibly 1/20736th???? (144th x 144th scale???) Or maybe we should call it "Mad Scale?" Both beautifully done whatever the scale!
The rest of the night was spent organising the final touches for the Festival and generally having a chat between members. So with only two more sleeps to go......
More than half way through the year!
And of course that would mean it is now July! Only one more month to go before Festival!!!
A very busy workshop was held - making an Etui in 1/12th scale! What a challenge, I must say though, the finished products looked fabulous!
There were a few members who had their Bon Bons to finish off - looking very intently here!
Placing the chair in the Bon Bon.
Of course lots of chatter about the finishing of items ready for the Festival was had....so till next month...stay warm!
June !
Even though it is winter, freezing and we were due for a bad storm, many members put on their warm coats and hats and braved the weather and came along to the June meeting. With not long to go till the Festival, preparations were the order of the day as were some of the workshops once again. Christmas Bon Bons part 3 - a busy and industrious table of folk here.
Part 4 is to be at the end of the month - hoping that we all finish in time for the show so you all can see our fine efforts finished!

There was also a Bagpipe workshop held this month - also a very industrious group hard at work here.
Some wonderful work has gone into the Raffle Boxes that will be on display and ready for raffling at the Festival. A sneak of what you could win!
As mentioned above - the two items are to be workshops coming up - first the Etui Box.
And secondly the Matchbox Scene.
Julie is a member who does some beautiful miniature animals. She recently purchased a kit to make this fab little monkey. Wonderful job Julie!
Well folks, stay warm, start saving the pennies ( August is not too far away!) and see you next month!
Here we are again, another month of the year gone by in a blink of an eye! Winter is here and its getting a bit damp and dark...roll on summer!
The meeting was a reasonably quiet one this month - a few of the members had been to the Sydney Miniature Fair and came back with a few 'little' nick knacks and displays - some brought them along to show and tell and others (like me!) forgot!
The following little display is of a old time photographer - the person bought this because her dad used to be a professional photographer back in the day - and believe or not, the model looks very much like her dad! (This is a 1/12th display)
The next little building is 1/48th and I believe a one of a kind. Sadly the lady that made this is probably not able to do any more work due to a problem with her eyesight. Its just the cutest little castle you will see.We have had a few items turn up for perusal to see what is going to be part of the Medieval section of this years Festival. This lovely building was constructed (or butchered kit!) by one of our newer members - looking forward to seeing it in the display.
Workshops were in full swing again - this was part 2 of a 4 part workshop. Last month we did the lounge room, this month was the bedroom and en suite.
There is a lot of concentrating going on here!
Decisions to be made!
And finally...items to be chosen and placed.
Another little workshop was held, getting some of the items for the lucky dips at the Festival ready.
So that's about all for this month, stay tuned!
April 2012
Well, its been a few months since the last posting here. Not because of anything other than I have been busy and I kept forgetting to post! Naughty me!!! Anyway, here we are - Easter has come and gone and we are a quarter way through the year already - be Christmas again before we know it!
The Club has been busy preparing for the Festival in August with much planning and organizing of what needs to be done and how it needs to be done. Just to remind you - the Theme is "Medieval" and "Sheds" - this could be a plethara of interesting items for display! And of course there is always the bits and pieces of different shapes and sizes of items for display in between - should be a good Festival to come and see once again.During the last couple of months, we have had a few workshops - making suitcases, with Debra. Even some of our new members took the plunge and got involved with this workshop! and what fine trunks and suitcases they turned out.
Hat making (of ye olde days) was another workshop held with Bev.
A workshop that is going for a few months with Marlene, is making a 1/48th scale "house" for the Christmas season. This is the members involved making the lounge suit for the lounge room (of course!)
Some of month 2 was done in meeting time - but a lot was sent home to do - so pics to follow with that one later! This is my effort for the lounge room :)
One of the members made a nice little purchase recently and brought it along for show and tell - you might get to see this in the flesh at the Festival too!
This is the "back" or inside of the display.
This is the front of the little display - its almost 1/24th scale.
So till next month - may you all stay safe!
Well, here we are again members and readers, coming the end of another year! And as always, some of our club members made a tremendous effort to entertain the rest of the group. A job most well done - and yes I know it did not include anything "miniature" - but we do like to think outside the square sometimes :)
The first to arrive was a Christmas Elf, seen here with Shona, who was trying to find out where the presents were hidden.
Then came the Christmas Fairy.
Rudolphina was close behind.
And last but not least Santa arrived with the Christmas Tree!
The evenings festivities ran along the lines of previous Christmas meetings - we have an auction which is always a laugh - below are some of the items that went under the hammer. The house was auctioned off after being donated to the club by an elderly lady who had moved to a retirement centre, with all the money going towards our charity fund for next year.

Marlene brought along a display of Christmas Bon Bons - this is going to be a several month workshop next year. The cost will be $35 per workshop - monthly - so if you are a member and haven't put your name down yet, be quick as the numbers are filling rapidly!
Judy had a little show and tell - this was an elephant she purchased in a local craft shop and decided to cut its tummy out and decorate with a scene from the Serengeti National Park and put some smaller elephants inside it! How clever and how cute?!
Ann recently went overseas on a bit of a spending spree and this is one of the items she brought back with her.
So this brings us to the close for the year. On behalf of all the members of S.A.M.E. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
We all hope you will continue to read the blog and maybe even come and visit us at one or more of our meetings.
All the best for 2012~
